Getting to Know You...Part Two
Q: Do you give yourself Vitamin B12 shots?
Dr. Shannon: I do [laughs]. I have [a] two-year-old and a ten-month-old and I work full-time and I also have the Got Vitamin B12. Quite a bit on my plate, just like many of our clients that come in, so I give myself a shot every week.
Q: What is one of your favorite Vitamin B12 shots health stories?
Dr. Shannon: I just have one. Actually, yesterday, where a woman came in and it was her third time ever getting a shot. She had had a chronic case of insomnia for about the last 6 years and had been to many healthcare professionals. They just wanted to put her on some sleep medication. She wanted to do something a little bit more natural. Had experimented with a lot of different remedies. After the first injection actually was having much deeper sleep and just reported to me yesterday that that has still continued after only 3 weeks of [Got Vitamin] B12 injections. She said that is the only thing that she has changed in her regiment. So I think that's a testament to what B12 can do, not just for energy but for so many other areas of the body.
Q: Why do people ignore their health?
Dr. Shannon: That is a good question too! I think we just get caught up in the rat race. I think especially in the Bay Area when the cost of living is so high, a lot of time there's two working parents full-time just to be able to afford to live here. I think we can just — all the sudden we're going to go in and get our blood drawn, or we are going to go in and take better care of ourselves — and then six months later — and we haven't done one single thing. I do feel like the B12 is something very easy.
It's very cost-effective for people to just come in. You are usually in and out within 5 to 10 minutes. Like I said, you don't need to be a patient. The cost of a general first office visit [Got Vitamin] B12 shot is only $25 and then we do packages to make it even more cost-effective for our clients. And it's a great way to just give your body that little boost that it may need, even if you can't go for an hour or 2 hour consultation for a full work-up. I think it's great for the Bay Area.
Q: If this is someone's first time at Got Vitamin B12 Happy Hour, what should one expect?
Dr. Shannon: First of all I always like to educate people about why we're injecting the vitamin versus just dosing it orally. You will spend about 5 to 10 minutes with the practitioner just to being able to answer any questions that you might have, educate you on the procedure. Like I said, it's very easy, it's in and out. We use a very tiny needle, so it doesn't inflict a lot of pain. It's very harmless for patients and they walk out feeling great. They can expect about 5 to 10 minutes of maybe a question and answer in education and then the injection itself only takes about 30 seconds.
Q: Got Vitamin B12 has five locations now. What are your plans for this year and the future that you would like to share?
Dr. Shannon: That's a great question, because we actually just this week opened our 6th location. We are really excited to be able to have two locations in Oakland now. That was a request from many individuals. We currently have three locations in San Francisco, two locations in Oakland, so one in Oakland, one in Piedmont and then one location in the North Bay and Mill Valley. Our eventual goal I think would be to have a few more locations that are accessible for the general population. For example maybe Berkeley or Emeryville, another particular location in the North Bay, another place maybe in the South Bay or Daly City, and to be able to do a little bit more corporate wellness events. We feel like this would be a great lunch Happy Hour for maybe a start-up company or if you are already in a company and you think it would be a great idea to have us come in and do a [Got Vitamin B12] Happy Hour at your work.
All the best,
The Got Vitamin B12 Team
